MFABER / Project planning guides

Prepare a project brief that connects materials and execution.

You do not need a finished design to start a conversation. You do need a clear separation between what is known, what you want and what still requires a survey or specialist review. This brief gives MFABER a shared starting point.

01

Describe use before appearance

Explain who uses the space, what is not working and what must stay. For a kitchen, note storage and appliance requirements. For a shop or office, describe the activities, occupancy needs and any areas that must remain operational. Record priorities separately from visual references.

02

Label the quality of the information

Identify whether measurements are approximate, taken from an existing drawing or checked on site. Date the plan and photographs, and give each room a simple reference. Do not present an old drawing as a verified survey. Existing services and concealed conditions may need checks before detailed decisions are made.

03

Connect location, scope and decisions

The project city, building access and desired period help plan survey, transport and installation. Record client-supplied items and other contractors already involved. Identify who approves samples and changes. Share only the information needed for the assessment; sensitive access instructions can be arranged later through an agreed channel.

MFABER / Your project worksheet

Your project worksheet

Fill one sheet for the project and add room-specific copies when needs differ. Attach only relevant plans or images with matching references. Put unresolved items in the last column instead of guessing. The next conversation should establish which information can support an initial proposal and which decisions need a survey, sample or specialist input first.

Frequently asked questions

Can I start without architectural drawings?

Yes. A description, approximate dimensions and relevant photographs can support an initial conversation. Detailed scope and production decisions may require verified measurements and further documents.

Is the requested installation date a confirmed programme?

No. Treat it as a target until scope, approvals, supply, access and the necessary checks have been considered and the programme agreed.
